Halloween Reminders: Smile Tips

Posted .

Halloween is just around the corner, which means plenty of treats and sweets to satisfy your sweet tooth. However, don’t be tricked by treats they can easily damage your teeth. Although sugar is well-known for the damage it can do to your teeth, there are other hazards to avoid this Halloween season as well. If you’re not careful, your holiday season can be ruined due to broken teeth.

Hard candy has been proven to chip and crack teeth easily, even in individuals that have otherwise healthy teeth. Always exercise caution when biting into any hard product, especially hard candy. In addition, hard candy can stick to your teeth much longer than traditional candy, which can rapidly increase tooth decay. Furthermore, popcorn balls and popcorn kernels can lead to the same sorts of damage, so exercise caution or avoid these products altogether.

Similar to hard candy, sticky and chewy candy, such as taffy, caramels, and gummies, can easily stick to your teeth and gums, which will increase the time that tooth decay can occur. Sticky candy is difficult to remove with traditional brushing and flossing methods alone. If you do eat sticky candy, always make sure to clean your mouth later thoroughly.
